On Saturday morning, in the Aegean Sea, a vessel with migrants sank near the resort of Dikili, Turkey, causing the death of one person and the disappearance of seven others. Turkish coast guards managed to rescue 37 passengers. Search operations continue to find the missing migrants.

Shipwrecks in this area are frequent, considering that migrants are trying to reach the Greek islands, a point of entry into the European Union. According to the International Organization for Migration, nearly 1,900 migrants have disappeared or been found dead in the Mediterranean in 2025.
