At least eight people have died, and nearly 20 are still reported missing, according to the latest toll in the case of the ferry that sank off the northern coast of Cyprus.

Authorities have provided different estimates regarding the number of missing persons, with some stating that there are 19, while others say 18.

It is worth mentioning that on Sunday, a ferry with nearly 270 passengers sank near the port city of Kyrenia, Cyprus. Divers have joined the search teams investigating the deep waters, while survivors have been rescued by nearby ships and coast authorities.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Bucharest stated that there were no Romanians among the passengers.

The ferry, which was heading to Taşucu, Turkey, encountered problems shortly after departure, rocked by waves before capsizing.

The captain and crew of the ferry have been detained for questioning.
