On Thursday, the Serbian Prosecutor's Office ordered the questioning of Vladimir Orlic, head of the Security and Information Agency (BIA), following a complaint regarding the alleged interference of the intelligence services in the legislative elections of October 25. The ruling party was defeated by the student movement.
Orlic is a former official of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS), the party associated with former President Aleksandar Vucic, which has been in power for 14 years. After the electoral victory, the students called for the departure of officials close to Vucic, including the head of the BIA.
The Prosecutor's Office stated that it had received a complaint against Orlic and other agency officials, accused of abuse of power, violation of electoral rights, and coercion. Lawyer Ivan Ninic claims that BIA employees were allegedly required to collect, as part of their official duties, voting commitments for the ruling party.
The investigation also concerns allegations of violations of electoral rights in prisons. Media organizations have called for Orlic's resignation amid allegations of surveillance of journalists. The BIA rejects the accusations, calling them false and malicious. Separately, the Ministry of Internal Affairs announced the arrest of police officers suspected of violence against students during the 2025 protests.
