Students in Serbia, united in the “Students’ List” movement, have asked the electoral authorities to announce the final results of Sunday’s parliamentary elections and have called for profound reforms in the judiciary and administration. They claim that the election was won decisively by their movement, but the official transfer of power will take several weeks.

At a press conference held in a park in central Belgrade, the students accused police and intelligence officials of favoring President Aleksandar Vucic’s party during the protests. They allege excessive use of force, illegal surveillance, detentions, and pressure on political opponents.

The students called for the protection of documents and evidence concerning possible wrongdoing, the resignation of some police and justice officials, and urgent investigations into high-level corruption cases. They announced that they would review all contracts and agreements concerning public spending, clarifying that they were not seeking revenge, but compliance with the law and institutional accountability.

The protests began after the roof of the railway station in Novi Sad collapsed in November 2024, a tragedy that left 16 people dead. The demonstrations continued amid accusations of corruption and cronyism directed at the Serbian Progressive Party, which has been in power since 2012. Vucic’s party rejects the accusations.
