Thousands of earthquakes, mostly of small magnitude, have been recorded between the Cycladic islands of Santorini and Amorgos, without causing casualties or major damage. Situated at the convergence of the African and Anatolian tectonic plates, the Aegean Sea is often affected by earthquakes. Schools will be closed until February 28 to prevent possible dangers.
