The former president of France, Nicolas Sarkozy, risks a new prison sentence after French prosecutors requested, on appeal, seven years of detention and a fine of 300,000 euros in the case regarding the illegal financing of his 2007 electoral campaign. Investigators claim that Sarkozy received millions of euros from Muammar Gaddafi's regime, through intermediaries, in exchange for promised political and legal favors to associates of the Libyan leader. The trial, which has been ongoing for two months, is expected to conclude in the upcoming period, and the verdict of the Court of Appeal is awaited on November 30.
