The Russian metropolis of Saint Petersburg and the Leningrad region were the targets of a massive attack by Ukrainian drones, according to local authorities. The governor of Saint Petersburg, Alexander Beglov, mentioned a "large-scale" attack without providing further details. However, the news portal Bumaga reported a fire at the city's oil terminal, which has a population of six million residents.
Alexander Drozdenko, the governor of the Leningrad region, confirmed that the drones struck the Vysotsk port, located 170 km northwest of Saint Petersburg, where the transit of oil and natural gas takes place. In total, 72 drones were shot down across the region. Ukraine has intensified attacks on Russian energy infrastructure, causing fuel shortages in various areas. Saint Petersburg, located 900 km from the Russian-Ukrainian border, has been attacked previously, including during the International Economic Forum in June.
