Russian General Vladimir Alekseiev, deputy head of the GRU, was shot on Friday in Moscow, suffering serious injuries to his abdomen, arm, and leg. After a surgical intervention, he was placed in an induced coma, but on Saturday he regained consciousness, and his life is no longer in danger, according to a TASS source. The police have detained two suspects, and the attack has been attributed to Ukraine by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, who suggested it could be sabotage of the peace negotiations.

Alekseiev, known for his role in the invasion of Ukraine in 2022 and in negotiations with the leader of the Wagner Group, Yevgeny Prigozhin, is involved in coordinating mercenary groups. This incident adds to a series of attacks on Russian military officials, including the killing of Fanil Sarvarov in December.
