Two Russian companies, Gazprom Neft and Gazprom, hold 44.9% and 11.3% of the shares of NIS, the main oil company in Serbia. The Serbian Minister of Energy, Dubravka Djedovic-Handanovic, announced that the Russian owners have agreed to sell their 56.15% stake in NIS, but the name of the buyer will not be disclosed until the essential details of the transaction are finalized. NIS has requested a license from the U.S. Treasury to operate without restrictions during the sale of the shares. The company, which owns the only refinery in Serbia and supplies 80% of the market, is the most traded on the Belgrade Stock Exchange, with approximately 13,500 employees and an extensive network of gas stations in Serbia, Bosnia, Bulgaria, and Romania. The Serbian state holds 29.9% of the shares of NIS.
