Russia presented online, on Victory Day, the new weapon "Geran-5", described by international media as a reaction missile, but which would actually be a low-cost model derived from the kamikaze drones previously used by Moscow in the conflict in Ukraine.
According to Kyiv Post, Geran-5 is a reaction-propelled missile, inspired by the Iranian Karrar model, having an explosive payload of 90 kg and a range of 1,000 km. Analysts warn that the missile, which uses Chinese and Western components, poses a significant threat to Ukrainian air defense due to its speed of 600 km/h and its ability to carry air-to-air missiles R-60 or R-73.
Geran-5 is part of Russia's efforts to develop low-cost cruise missiles intended for mass production and saturation attacks.
