Serhii "Flash" Beskrestnov, advisor to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, stated that Russia has begun to modernize the Shahed drones, equipping them with jet engines in response to the development of interceptor drones by Ukraine.
According to reports, the new BM-35 drones can reach speeds of over 217 miles per hour (approximately 350 km/h) and have a range of over 200 kilometers, allowing them to more easily evade Ukrainian interceptors.
Drones have become a main weapon in the conflict in Ukraine, and Russia recently launched 152 drones, of which 124 were destroyed by Ukrainian forces. A recent drone attack on an apartment building in Marhanets resulted in the death of a baby and injured 11 others.
At the same time, Ukraine has intensified attacks on Russian industrial infrastructure, trying to affect Moscow's war capabilities.
Zelensky has requested additional support from the West to strengthen the country's air defense.
