The declaration of 'inadmissibility' of the NGO Reporters Without Borders (RSF) by the Russian Ministry of Justice reflects a continuation of the campaign to suppress dissent in Russia. This means that those who collaborate with or fund RSF risk legal action and imprisonment. Since the start of the offensive in Ukraine, the Russian authorities have stepped up their crackdown on critical voices, banning numerous NGOs and media outlets, including Greenpeace and Amnesty International. RSF denounces these violations of freedom of expression, pointing out that most of the independent press in Russia has been either banned or blocked.
