The Russian Foreign Ministry announced that it has declared a diplomatic agent of the German embassy in Moscow persona non grata, in a symmetric response to the German government's decision to expel a Russian diplomat accused of espionage. Berlin summoned the Russian ambassador, Sergey Nechaev, to inform him about this expulsion on January 22.
The Russian Ministry emphasized that Berlin bears full responsibility for the escalation of bilateral relations and described the espionage allegations against its diplomat as unfounded, considering them fabricated in a spirit of "spy hunting" by the German government. This situation reflects the diplomatic tensions between Russia and Germany.
