Russia's Federal Agency for Food, Agriculture and Veterinary Safety has banned the import and transit of sheep and goats from Romania and Bulgaria since August 5 because of smallpox outbreaks. The restrictions also apply to other animals and products, including meat, milk and slaughtering equipment. The World Organization for Animal Health has confirmed 11 outbreaks in Bulgaria and 7 in Romania. Russia has not received information on prevention measures taken by veterinary authorities in these countries.
