On Tuesday, Rome inaugurated two new stations of the C metro line, one of which is located 30 meters deep, right under the Colosseum. These stations combine modern infrastructure with archaeological discoveries, including ceramic vessels, stone fountains, and the ruins of a thermal bath from the 1st century. The project, valued at 7 billion euros, has been under construction for nearly 20 years, delayed by bureaucracy and the need to protect historical sites.

So far, three-quarters of the 31 stations are operational, and full completion is expected by 2035. The Porta Metronia station has also been opened, where a military barracks from the 2nd century was discovered. During the works, over 500,000 artifacts were found, and special techniques, such as soil freezing, were used to protect the historical sites.
