The Ministry of National Defense (MApN) announced that Romania has a new squadron of F-16 Fighting Falcon aircraft, the 48th Fighter Aviation Squadron, which began Air Policing missions on October 20, at the 71st Air Base in Câmpia Turzii.
These missions aim to ensure the integrity of Romanian airspace and to defend NATO's eastern flank, highlighting Romania's commitment to collective security.
The Minister of Defense, Ionuț Moșteanu, emphasized the professionalism of the Romanian Air Forces and their ability to operate alongside NATO allies.
Romania now has three squadrons providing air protection: two Romanian and one allied with Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft from the German Air Force.
This collaboration forms a security umbrella on NATO's Eastern Flank, contributing to the maintenance of peace and security in the region.
