Japan is facing record snowfall, resulting in at least 14 deaths and 198 injuries, according to the Fire and Disaster Management Agency. The most victims were reported in Niigata Prefecture, followed by Akita, Hokkaido, Aomori, Yamagata, and Shimane. The deaths were mainly caused by accidents during snow removal, including falls from roofs and sudden illnesses.

Transportation has been severely affected, with over 1,400 trains suspended and approximately 414,000 passengers impacted. New Chitose Airport also faced issues, with 9,000 travelers stranded. Meteorologists warn that the snowfall will continue, recommending caution in the face of avalanche risks and accidents.
