MEP Raphaël Glucksmann, 46, will be the candidate of France’s social-democratic left in the presidential election in April and May 2027, after winning the primary held in France on Sunday by a wide margin in the first round.
Glucksmann won 66.17% of the votes cast by the 120,787 participants, far outpacing the other candidates. Socialist Party First Secretary and MP Olivier Faure came second, with 14.5% of the vote, while Ségolène Royal, a former minister and Socialist candidate in the 2007 presidential election, received 7%.
The other two candidates, Emmanuel Maurel and Jérôme Guedj, each received approximately 6% of the vote. The primary was organized mainly by the Socialist Party, with the participation of Place Publique, the movement founded by Glucksmann.
Voting was extended by one day after a cyberattack disrupted the start of the primary. The vote, initially scheduled to run from Friday to Saturday, ended on Sunday. The victory gives Glucksmann the position of the social-democratic left’s candidate for the 2027 presidential race.
