Russian President Vladimir Putin commented on the new sanctions imposed by the United States against the oil companies Rosneft and Lukoil, stating that they are important but not strong enough to significantly influence the Russian economy. Putin emphasized that the sanctions represent an unfriendly act and do not contribute to improving relations between Russia and the USA. He also warned that a disruption of oil exports from Russia could lead to rising global prices, including in the United States.
Regarding the planned meeting with American President Donald Trump, which was recently canceled, Putin stated that dialogue is preferable to confrontation. He mentioned that a Tomahawk missile attack on Russia would receive a serious response. Trump explained that he canceled the meeting due to a lack of progress in discussions but expressed hope that the sanctions would be lifted if Russia cooperates in peace negotiations.
