Russian President Vladimir Putin visited Novosibirsk State University, where he interacted with students, doctoral candidates, and young scientists.
During the discussion, Putin addressed the topic of artificial intelligence (AI) and the possible threats it could pose to Russia. A student stated that there are no reasons for concern, but mentioned a potential threat related to dependence on AI, which could reduce critical thinking. Putin responded that he has never been afraid of anything.
Although Russia declared artificial intelligence a national priority in 2019, the country is lagging behind the USA and China in this field, mainly due to Western sanctions affecting access to technology. Russia plans to increase investments in AI to 850 billion rubles annually by 2030.
