Vladimir Putin has appointed a chief of the Pilotless Systems Forces, the new military branch responsible for the use of drones in the war in Ukraine.

The President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, announced on Wednesday the appointment of Denis Liamin as the head of the Pilotless Systems Forces, a new military branch created to manage the use of drones in the context of the war in Ukraine. This decision was part of a reorganization of the Russian military structure, halfway through the fifth year of conflict.

Drones have become essential in this war, being used both on the front line and for attacks on enemy infrastructure. Liamin, former Chief of Staff of the 'Center' group, was chosen due to his experience in ground forces and has been tasked with completing the training of the new drone forces. In the same meeting, Putin also announced a reshuffle of the leadership, appointing Andrei Ivanaiev in place of Valeri Solodciuk at the head of the 'Center' group, which focuses on conquering the Donetsk region.
