The no-confidence motion has been tabled by the Socialist Party's 68 MPs, who accuse Prime Minister François Bayrou of breaking a promise to allow parliament to debate the fixed retirement age of 62. Although the motion is unlikely to pass, the PS is relying on a 2025 letter in which Bayrou called for political agreement on state budgets. The PM ruled out a return to the age of 62, citing demographic and financial reasons.
