The Global Sumud Flotilla, made up of over 40 ships with activists, was intercepted by the Israeli Navy 120 km off the coast of Gaza while attempting to break the maritime blockade. Activist Greta Thunberg was among the passengers and posted a video message before the interception. Although in international waters, the area was considered dangerous. Israel asked the flotilla to turn back, offering a port for unloading aid, but the activists refused. European governments were involved, and Israel accused some members of the flotilla of having ties to Hamas.
