Turkey announced on Friday that it has issued an international arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Afek Moskovici, following an investigation related to the interception of the Gaza Flotilla.
The Turkish Minister of Justice, Akin Gurlek, stated that these warrants, issued on July 14, 2026, target serious charges, including genocide and crimes against humanity. The two are accused of aggravated deprivation of liberty, assault, torture, and other offenses. The flotilla, consisting of approximately 430 activists, was intercepted by the Israeli army in May, in the Mediterranean Sea, in an attempt to break the blockade on the Gaza Strip.
They were forcibly brought to Israel and later released. The incident generated international outrage, especially after the release of a controversial video by Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, which was perceived as a provocation.
