On Sunday evening, an aviation incident occurred in Maine, New England, when a private Bombardier Challenger 650 crashed during takeoff, having eight people on board. The condition of the passengers was not immediately communicated. The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board have launched an investigation, and the airport was closed following the accident. The aircraft is registered to a limited liability company in Houston. Audio recordings show that, a few minutes before the accident, air traffic controllers were discussing reduced visibility and the need for de-icing. After the takeoff was authorized, a controller announced the stopping of traffic on the runway, followed by information that the plane had overturned. The accident occurred in the context of a severe snowstorm affecting the United States.
