The wildfires in Portugal and Spain are the worst in recent years, with 139,000 hectares destroyed in Portugal and 157,000 in Spain. Around 3,500 firefighters are working in Portugal to control 10 major fires, and one volunteer has died in the process. In Spain, 19 fires are active and the country has received support from France and Italy. The two nations are asking for European help to deal with the crisis.
