He emphasized the importance of peace on this holiday and expressed regret that Russia seems to have rejected the request for a ceasefire. The Pontiff urged people of good will to observe a day of peace, hoping that his appeal will be heard. This will be his first Christmas service since he was elected pope, and on Thursday he will deliver the traditional 'Urbi et Orbi' blessing, in which he will review the conflicts around the world.
