During his return from his visit to Turkey and Lebanon, Pope Leo appealed to American President Donald Trump not to resort to military force to overthrow Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro. The Pontiff emphasized that a military intervention could escalate tensions and severely affect the civilian population. He mentioned that the Catholic Church is seeking solutions to calm the situation in Venezuela, where people are suffering due to the conflict.

Pope also criticized anti-immigration activists and promoted cooperation between Christians and Muslims as a model for other regions. During the trip, he also discussed his future as the leader of the Church, mentioning that he realized the possibility of his election during the conclave. The Pope suggested that Africa could be his next travel destination.
