Although he did not wish to enter into a direct debate with Trump, the Pope criticized the 'illusion of omnipotence' that fuels international conflicts.

In response, Trump called the Pope 'terrible' in foreign policy and criticized his approach to crime. Pope Leon, the first American pope, has been an outspoken critic of the US-Israel war against Iran, denouncing the 'madness of war' and calling for peace.
