The study conducted by Outright International highlights the use of homophobic and transphobic rhetoric by politicians in 51 countries during previous elections. Although progress has been recorded in LGBTQ+ representation, with candidates from 36 countries, including Romania, the majority were unsuccessful. The increase in LGBTQ+ visibility has generated negative reactions from conservative segments, and politicians from various countries are using anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric as part of a coordinated global strategy.
