Poland has become the first country to sign a loan agreement with the European Commission, aimed at financing the modernization of the army and the arms industry, benefiting from nearly 44 billion euros. Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated that this moment is crucial for both Poland and the European Union, emphasizing that the country will be safer in the face of current challenges.
Poland allocates 4.8% of its GDP for defense, the highest share among NATO members. The European Union's Security Action For Europe (SAFE) program, launched in 2025, provides 150 billion euros for defense projects, with Poland being the main beneficiary, considering the Russian threats.
Tusk stated that this agreement demonstrates Europe's commitment to taking responsibility for its security. The agreement was signed by the Polish ministers of finance and defense, alongside the European commissioners for budget and defense.
