Poland denounces the political asylum offered by Hungary to former minister Zbigniew Ziobro, accused of embezzlement, considering it a hostile and unacceptable action.

The Polish government reacted vehemently to Hungary's decision to grant political asylum to former Minister of Justice, Zbigniew Ziobro, who is accused of embezzlement. Polish Foreign Minister, Radoslaw Sikorski, described this action as "unacceptable" and "hostile," emphasizing that Hungary ignored a European arrest warrant.

Sikorski accused the Hungarian government of showing solidarity with corrupt nationalist politicians and stated that this gesture undermines the perception of the judicial system in Poland. Ziobro, who faces 26 charges, has obtained asylum in Hungary, and his lawyer claims that the actions of the Polish prosecution are politically motivated.

Relations between Poland and Hungary, usually good, have deteriorated after Russia's invasion of Ukraine, in the context of Hungary's refusal to militarily support Ukraine. The Hungarian Foreign Minister responded to the criticisms by calling Sikorski "a fanatical warrior."
