The three men, Khalid Sheikh Mohammad, Walid Muhammad Salih Mubarak Bin Attash and Mustafa Ahmed Adam al-Hawsawi, have been held for years at the US naval base at Guantanamo Bay without trial. The deal involves plea bargains in exchange for prosecutors dropping their death penalty request. The agreement was announced in a letter sent to the victims' families.
