Peter Magyar, the winner of the elections in Hungary, invited Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to a meeting in western Ukraine to address the issues of the Hungarian ethnic minority in the region. Magyar, who took over from Viktor Orban, emphasized the importance of improving the situation of ethnic Hungarians in Transcarpathia, where they represent the majority. Although Magyar does not share Orban's hostility towards Ukraine, he opposes Kyiv's rapid accession to the European Union, emphasizing that the treatment of Hungarians will influence bilateral relations. Magyar called for the restoration of the cultural and linguistic rights of ethnic Hungarians, mentioning that the concessions announced by Ukraine in the field of education are insufficient. Ukrainian officials reacted positively to the election results, with Zelensky congratulating Magyar and expressing his openness to collaboration.
