Pakistan has managed to play an essential role in negotiating a temporary ceasefire between Iran and the United States, in the context of rising tensions in the Middle East. Having good relations with both parties, Pakistan has been appreciated for this diplomatic success, being the only country in the region capable of mediating between the two nations. The former ambassador of Pakistan to Tehran, Asif Durrani, highlighted the historical and cultural ties between the two countries, which facilitate cooperation.
Additionally, the chief of the Pakistani army, Marshal Asim Munir, has established a personal relationship with American President Donald Trump, contributing to the success of the negotiations. Pakistan desires regional stability and the avoidance of escalating conflict, considering its dependence on hydrocarbon imports. The initial negotiations will take place in Islamabad, and Pakistan could facilitate direct discussions between Iran and the USA, playing the role of mediator in resolving disputes.
