Following the intensification of hostilities in Lebanon, Syria has recorded a significant increase in the number of people crossing the border with Lebanon. Between March 2 and 27, over 200,000 people entered Syria through the three official crossing points, according to statements by Aseer al-Madaien, the interim representative of UNHCR in Syria. He made the announcement during a press conference held via videoconference from Damascus, highlighting the impact of the crisis in Lebanon on the humanitarian situation in Syria.
The increase in the number of refugees raises questions about Syria's capacity to manage the flows of people and the necessary measures to ensure adequate assistance to them. UNHCR is working to assess the needs of refugees and to provide support during this difficult period.
