Viktor Orbán, the Prime Minister of Hungary, has asked the European Union to send a 'fact-finding mission' to assess the situation of the Druzhba pipeline, in the context of tensions with Ukraine related to oil transit. In a letter addressed to the President of the European Council, António Costa, Orbán emphasized that this dispute must be clarified before Budapest approves the payment of a 90 billion euro loan for Ukraine and the adoption of the 20th sanctions package against Russia.

The Prime Minister proposed that the mission include experts from Hungary and Slovakia, both countries being affected by disruptions in oil transit. Orbán assured that Hungary will accept the conclusions of the mission, regardless of its results.
