The Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orbán, announced on Sunday, after an extraordinary meeting of the Defense Council, that he ordered the strengthening of military control and protection of the Hungarian section of the TurkStream gas pipeline, crucial for the country's gas supply.
Orbán specified that, according to available information, a sabotage action was being prepared on the section of the pipeline in Vojvodina. Following consultations with the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, it was confirmed that the pipeline is operating without disruptions, and the Serbs have strengthened its protection. Orbán emphasized the importance of the pipeline, which provides 60% of Hungary's gas consumption, and mentioned that Serbian authorities are conducting an investigation in this case.
Additionally, the Prime Minister warned of an imminent energy crisis in Europe, highlighting that Hungary is facing ongoing threats to its energy security from Ukraine, which seeks to reduce Europe's dependence on Russian energy. Orbán stated that Hungary will defend its energy system and national interests.
