Narges Mohammadi, the 2023 laureate for her fight against the oppression of women in Iran, has reported direct and indirect death threats from the Iranian regime. The Nobel Committee received an urgent appeal from her expressing concern for her safety. Mohammadi, who was imprisoned in 2021 and provisionally released on medical grounds, has been the subject of similar threats passed on to her close friends and family. The committee called for the protection of the right to free expression for all critical citizens in Iran.
