Nigerian authorities have managed to free 100 students who were kidnapped by armed men from a Catholic school last month, according to a source from the United Nations and local media. The release was confirmed on December 7, but the fate of another 165 students and staff who are believed to still be in captivity remains uncertain.
Kidnappings of this kind have become a major problem in Nigeria, where armed groups frequently attack schools to abduct students in exchange for ransoms. Authorities continue to work to ensure the safety of all those remaining in captivity.
