Nicolas Sarkozy was found guilty of criminal conspiracy in connection with an alleged Libyan financing of his 2007 presidential campaign, while he was acquitted of charges of concealment of public funds embezzlement and passive corruption. The Paris Correctional Court emphasized that Sarkozy allowed his collaborators to seek financial support from Muammar Gaddafi's regime. His former campaign director, Claude Guéant, was also found guilty of several offenses, including passive corruption and money laundering.
