The French judiciary has ordered the extradition of an antifascist activist to Germany

The French justice system decided on Wednesday to extradite the Albanian antifascist activist Rexhino Abazaj, known as 'Gino', to Germany. This decision comes after France refused to hand him over to Hungary for fear of violating his fundamental rights.

Abazaj is accused of violence against neo-Nazis who participated in a demonstration in Budapest in February 2023, being suspected of using bats and hammers. In the event that he is convicted in Hungary, he faces a sentence of up to 24 years in prison, while in Germany he could receive a sentence of up to 10 years.

His lawyer, Youri Krassoulia, criticized the decision of the Paris Court of Appeal, calling it 'scandalous'. In April 2025, France refused to extradite him to Hungary, citing the risks of 'inhumane treatment' in prison and the lack of guarantees for a fair trial. The Attorney General argued that Germany provided clear answers to the questions of the Court of Appeal.
