At the opening of the UN Oceans Summit, leaders such as Emmanuel Macron and Antonio Guterres criticized the absence of Donald Trump and his plans to exploit marine resources. Macron stressed that Greenland and the oceans are not for sale, while Guterres warned that the oceans must not become a "Wild West". The summit brought new pledges to ratify the Oceans Treaty, essential to protect the marine environment. Ursula von der Leyen also called for speeding up ratification of the treaty, highlighting the ocean crisis and the importance of global action.
