<p>From April 2, citizens from around 30 European countries, including the EU, will need to obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) to enter the UK. This permit, similar to the US ESTA, will initially cost €12, rising to €19 from April 9. The ETA is valid for two years and allows stays of up to six months. The application process takes less than 10 minutes, but three working days is recommended. Exceptions exist for students under 18 on school trips in France and for passengers transiting through certain airports without passing through border controls. The UK government justifies the measure on the need to strengthen border security.
