In the Tuscany region, Italy, approximately 3,500 people have been evacuated by the army and police due to a rapidly spreading forest fire between Lucca and Pisa. The flames have destroyed over 800 hectares of vegetation, and the San Giuliano Terme Municipality announced that the wind has contributed to the spread of the fire towards the village of Asciano.
Authorities have mobilized Canadair planes and helicopters to combat the fire, and firefighters have deployed 19 vehicles in the intervention operations. Two middle schools in the area have been equipped to shelter the evacuated individuals, hosting approximately 107 people. Forest fires are common in Italy, but they are starting to occur earlier in the season due to climate change and rising temperatures.
