The road to Băile Herculane is blocked due to the vegetation fire

A vegetation fire has affected approximately 160 hectares of forest on the slopes in the Cerna Valley area, and road traffic has been blocked in both directions between Băile Herculane and Târgu Jiu. The decision was made this morning by the Timișoara Regional Directorate for Roads and Bridges because of the major risk to drivers.

The flames are affecting high, unstable slopes, from which rocks, pieces of stone and trees are breaking loose and falling directly onto the road. Emergency crews are on site and are trying to contain and extinguish the fire, but the operation is hampered by the rugged terrain and difficult access to the fire sources.

Authorities have announced that the traffic restrictions will remain in place throughout the day. Drivers are advised to avoid the affected route and use the alternative Băile Herculane–Orșova route. The road will be reopened depending on the stabilization of the slopes and the removal of the danger of further collapses onto the road.
