At the summit in The Hague, NATO member countries decided to adopt a joint declaration on spending 5% of GDP on defense by 2035, with the exception of Spain, which objected. The declaration will be formalized after approval by world leaders, including the US president. The Netherlands has launched Operation Orange Shield to secure the summit, deploying more than 10,000 troops and defense equipment. The summit will officially begin on Wednesday with a state dinner hosted by King Willem-Alexander.
