Supermodel Naomi Campbell won an appeal on Thursday against a five-year ban on serving as a trustee of a UK charity. The London tribunal ruled that, although there had been serious misconduct and mismanagement at Fashion For Relief, Campbell was not directly responsible for the improper use of funds.
Fashion For Relief, an organisation founded by Campbell in 2005 to raise money for humanitarian causes, was removed from the Charity Commission’s register in 2024. The supermodel was subsequently banned from serving as a trustee following complaints about the way the organisation was managed.
The investigation identified expenses in 2018 for spa treatments, cigarettes and room service while Campbell was staying at a five-star hotel near Cannes. It also found that a lawyer who served as a trustee allegedly received approximately £290,000 through unauthorised payments presented as consultancy fees.
Campbell said she did not know how the funds were being used and had been misled about the payments. The tribunal ruled that she was not responsible for the unjustified expenses, but held her responsible for failing to keep proper minutes and for submitting documents late. The judges concluded that these breaches were not serious enough to declare her unfit to serve as a trustee.
