NASA and SpaceX have announced ambitious plans for the colonization of the Moon, aiming to build habitable lunar bases in the next decade. NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman emphasized that construction could begin in 2027, but experts warn that the challenges are significant. The lunar environment is extremely hostile, with sharp lunar dust and constant cosmic radiation, which can affect the health of astronauts. Additionally, the technology needed to ensure safe and sustainable housing on the Moon is still under development, and questions regarding resources and infrastructure remain unanswered.

Experts emphasize that, without additional data, current plans may be premature. Lunar ice, a potential resource, remains unexplored, and the risks associated with low gravity and radiation exposure are concerning. Giuseppe Reibaldi, president of the Moon Village Association, warned that we must be cautious in our estimates related to the colonization of the Moon, so as not to promise what we cannot deliver.
