A military C-130 Hercules plane crashed on Friday near the capital of Bolivia, La Paz, causing the death of at least 15 people and injuring several others. The aircraft, which was carrying banknotes, skidded off the runway at El Alto international airport, damaging several vehicles on a highway and scattering banknotes on the roadway. Images from local media show people rushing to collect the money, while police intervened with tear gas to disperse them.
The Minister of Defense, Marcelo Salinas, warned that the banknotes have no legal value, as they were not issued by the Central Bank. Authorities closed the airport and launched an investigation to determine the causes of the crash. Two crew members of the plane had not been found by the end of the day on Friday.
